Show us Your Type London Typographic poster design submission
Show Us Your Type is a collaborative design project focusing on typographic design and cities. Design agency Superfried was invited to submit a poster design for their London exhibition. The brief couldn't be simpler, typographically represent London. The reality of trying to answer the brief was a lot more challenging!
For the typographic design, a minimal and geometric approach was adopted. Although the bespoke typography would reveal the location, I wanted it to also connect with something truly iconic and synonymous with the great city. The initial design concept for the poster featured a typographic illustration of a classic London bus. However, a bit of research revealed this idea had been realised before, so it was back to the drawing board.
Continuing with the public transport theme, design experimentation generated potential routes based on the classic tube. With the O's of London forming a tunnel and the remainder the tube train, this proved to be a very clean, bold, and dynamic creative solution which was far stronger than my original idea.
My design submission made the cut, for inclusion in the final 80 posters. They were exhibited in the atrium windows housed within the stunning architecture of Central Saint Martins – part of the new University of the Arts London. To promote the typographic design, animation was the logical solution.
